Master Cleanse Diet
Jun 19The Master Cleanse Diet, otherwise known as the Lemonade Diet, was created by a doctor named Stanley Burroughs in 1941, and became popular due to the book Lose Weight, Have More Energy and Be Happier in 10 Days, by Peter Glickman. This diet is actually a detoxifying regimen involving no solid food for ten days. Seems scary, right?
Well, read on to find out more!
Because this program does not allow for solid food, you are probably wondering what the heck it could allow for? Well, it’s actually pretty simple. You make a lemonade, out of fresh lemons, high grade maple syrup, and water. You can drink as much of this lemonade and water as you want. This detox program must be adhered to for 10 days, but any longer can cause harm to your body.
The program also requires the use of a laxative to aid the body in keeping away from constipation as the body goes into a shot of shock from not eating solid food. This laxative tea is taken at night, and in the morning, drinking 32 ounces of lukewarm water and sea salt serves as an enema. It works very quickly moving through the system in 30 to 60 minutes.
Take a look at what this detox program does for your body!
Stage One: (Days 1-2): Blood sugar levels drop, and reserves are pulled from the muscles and liver to sustain the body. Weakness is common. This first stage of the fast is often the worst.
Stage Two: (Days 3-7): Fats are broken down and expelled during this stage. Your skin may become oily, even if you have great skin, as oils are leaving the body. You will feel hunger, but the desire to eat will disappear, and could last for 40-60 days. The body is embracing the fact that the digestive system is getting a break. Parts of your body will begin cleansing, and you may feel better as your body is getting rest.
Stage Three: (Days 8-15): As your body has become used to the fast, and has cleansed itself a bit, you are probably feeling better than you have in years. Old injuries may become aggrevated, but your healing process is the most optimum now.
Stage Four: Days (16-30): The body has completely adjusted to the fast, and you are probably feeling even better, and have more clarity of mind. Healing process is complete, and the mind will allow memory and concentration to improve.
Stage Five: Breaking the Fast: This can be quite uncomfortable as any eating could cause the bowel to become instantaneously irritated. Using enemas will help this.
When you resume regular eating after completing the fast, you should slowly introduce solid foods back starting with soups, heavy juices, and then moving to healthier solid foods like vegetables and nuts. Adding some probiotics (healthy bacteria and cultures) to promote healthy intestinal tracts. Hollywood stars have used this diet with great success, but with anything, this should be done carefully and supervised.
