Ab Workouts for Women

I keep on reading all these fashion magazines and watch all those supermodel-type shows on TV, you know, the ones we women watch. And in every one of those magazines or show you see just one type of woman, the one who has a great body, clear-skinned, great hair, etc. It’s sad, really, because I feel it’s a vicious cycle: these magazines and TV shows change how women perceive what an ideal body is, and the business created by the search for the ideal body fuels these magazines and shows. In a way, Hollywood is changing how we look at our bodies.
In one of these same magazines I read an article about how huge amounts of money are actually spent by Americans on products and services that helps people lose weight and be fit. The amount: $33 billion. That’s how obsessed people are right now with diet fads, diet pills, exercise stuff, and all those others that are “guaranteed” to be effective, but are actually not.
I can’t blame women for trying to face the challenge of weight loss, and just obsessing about weight in general. It becomes a huge issue for us because of things like childbirth, stress and anxiety (in some cases it could even lead to eating disorders). If you have a sagging belly, or have lots of flab in general, or your abs are not as flat as a washboard, woe is you.
These are conditions in which females are more sensitive to, and when exercise is being considered, not all male workouts are ideal for implementation by females.
The killer secrets for the perfect abs for women does not equate to: exercise, exercise, exercise (like what seems to be the case among men). As a matter of fact, the elements of a good fitness regimen involve more than just rigorous and regular training. The first secret is of course having a balanced diet. Starving yourself is never an answer, nor is deprivation of the basic caloric and nutritional requirements of your body. You can check online for the calorie requirements of women based on their levels of daily activity.
The second secret is of course the right kinds of ab workouts. Women can perform abdominal exercises easily without having to use machines. They can do this at home, or during their break time and it takes only a few minutes per day. Some of the exercises include alternative positions for crunches and leg lifts that are less strenuous for the back. In reality, exercise should be done in moderation, to prevent injury and muscular pain. You can start with about 10 repetitions of each exercise, in three sets after sufficient breaks in between. Intensity can be increased as your body gets accustomed to the efforts you are exerting.
What is the third secret to great abs and a great body? Rest. A lot of people neglect to get enough sleep and rest even after a tiring day. Rest helps your body adjust to the changes better, so your results are more satisfactory. It’s true that we’re now more aware and obsessed of how society wants us to look, but there’s still a lot of good to be gained from that. In most cases, looking good and being healthy go together, and that’s a goal I would definitely want to strive for. So if we could just stop trying to look good and instead focus more on being healthy first, looking good will follow. You will be prettier, your abs will be flat and your skin will be clear, you will be healthier and feel younger, and all these will translate to a happier you.
